Form
Our primary design objective was to provide a police station welcoming to the public while maintaining a secure perimeter. We achieved this goal with a bright, airy public lobby enclosed with a glass curtain wall and secured on the lobby interior with a bullet-resistant wall enclosure. The limestone and brick exterior is reminiscent of Augusta’s historic civic buildings and stands as a symbol of safety and security that inspires confidence and pride in the public sector.
Function
The police station is a crucial institution in our communities, providing a safe and secure space for our police officers to perform their duties and protect our citizens. Inside, the police station is a bustling hub of activity, equipped with modern facilities such as interview rooms, community service offices, administrative offices, and evidence processing and storage. It is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Augusta police force. To ensure the continuous functionality of the building, the new Augusta Police Stations have been designed to withstand all environmental threats, including earthquakes, floods, and severe climate events. The full building generator will provide 24/7 operations during grid interruptions, and future batteries can provide indefinite operations powered by the 380 solar panels on the roof.
Finance
Our financial goal for the Augusta Police Department was to ensure the City’s resources were allocated most effectively. To achieve this, we started with a floor plan that maximized efficiency and eliminated unnecessary square footage. Every building system, from the structure to the HVAC, was carefully chosen to provide the best quality and durability for the highest value. The result is the Augusta Police Station, a testament to meticulous planning, thorough analysis, and prudent management of the City’s financial resources. This approach ensured a fiscally efficient building and an attractive and functional one, instilling confidence in the public about the city’s financial management.
