About Port City Architecture | Maine-Based Sustainable Architects

Since 1989, Port City Architecture has delivered high-performing architectural solutions that balance Form, Function, and Financial value. Our commitment to these guiding principles has earned the trust of clients in core sectors including
public safety, higher education, laboratory, commercial, and residential design.

Our holistic, client-focused approach results in architecture that supports people, performance, and purpose. From early research and conceptual design through construction monitoring, we collaborate closely with clients, consultants, and contractors to deliver spaces that meet real-world needs with lasting value.

Sustainability is integral to our practice. As long-time members of the U.S. Green Building Council (since 2001), we design energy-efficient, environmentally responsible buildings that reduce operational costs and promote occupant well-being. We employ three LEED-accredited professionals and have completed five LEED Silver-certified projects across Maine. Many of our clients also benefit from rebate incentives through Efficiency Maine.

Firm principals Andrew Hyland and Lita Semaru have both served in leadership roles on the board of the Maine chapter of the USGBC—reinforcing our role as a trusted voice in sustainable and community-centered design.

We take pride in being certified members of:
